We are finishing our Google Slide projects about avalanches (equipment, rules to keep you safe, ways to prevent a big avalanche, other cool facts about avalanches)
Soil is our focus until the end of January.
Why is soil important? 1. Animals live in it. 2. We grow our food in it. 3. There are nutrients (anything that gives us nourishment - hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen, phosphorus,potassium) in it that help us live. 4. Living (earthworms, plants, bacteria) and non-living things (rocks) are in soil. 5. Different plants can live in different soils.
Types of soil: sand, clay, loam
Advantages and disadvantages of composting 1. Less waste ends up in our dumps (landfills). 2. Composting returns valuable nutrients back to the soil. 3. Less fertilizers needed for gardens and crops. 4. Bugs and worms like composted soil 5. Costs very little money :) 6. Dirty and smelly 7. Lots of bugs around 8. Need a place to compost - hard if you live in an apartment or the city. 9. May attract animals if not covered
